Neal Pollack, author, Never Mind the Pollacks: A Rock and Roll Novel – His Majesty’s Dragon, Throne Of Jade, and Black Powder War by Naomi Novik: All right, I’ll admit to really grinding up the geek machine. I’m settling in with a trilogy about an air war, with dragons, between England and France in the 1800s. These books, combined with my rapidly disappearing hairline and the presence of my 3-year-old son, will make me the hottest ticket in Malibu this summer.
Oh, how wonderful! His Majesty’s Dragon was the best airplane book ever last weekend (see top of column to left). I plan to read Throne of Jade in the car tomorrow. And I’m dead jealous if he’s already got Black Powder War.

I’m so jealous you’ve got the new John Green, Looking for Alaska was my airplane reading last week on my trip to Boston.
I got Trish those books (well, the first two) and she used the a relief from her relentless PhD studies. She’s jonesing for the third one already.
(I got myself a copy of the UK hardcover of the first one for the collection, because I think the title is less cheesy. And because I am apparently more than a little insane.)
Oh, god, I loved those books–Naomi is totally a genius. Gwenda, I should have asked you, but now it is too late: when I was clearing out of my Cambridge sublet last week, I ended up putting the galleys for #2 and #3 in the recycling because I was already sending so much paper back to NY, but clearly I should have mailed them to you…. And the best thing is that clearly there are going to be MORE, it is not a trilogy at all but a WONDERFUL SERIES!
The first one was a lot of fun, “my dear.” I’ve got books 2 and 3 on the pile, hopefully I can get to them next week.
HA! I brought H.M.DRAGON for my BEA plane read – but my sister stole it from me! And then she finished it in Dallas Fort Worth Airport and had to go to the bookstore there to buy JADE immediately!
(Now I’m starting – and I got B.P.WAR today, because I know I will love them)
