Debasement Tapes. Piz (Chris Lowell) is put in charge of escorting his idol, Desmond Fellows (guest star Paul Rudd, "Anchorman"), a singer/musician from a 1990’s pop band who arrives on the Hearst campus to perform at a benefit concert for the radio station. When tapes of Fellow’s back-up vocals and tracks go missing, Piz recruits Veronica (Kristen Bell) to help locate them. Keith (Enrico Colantoni) believes he will be running unopposed in the race for Sheriff, until an unlikely candidate throws his hat into the ring. Jason Dohring, Percy Daggs, Francis Capra, Ryan Hansen Tina Majorino and Julie Gonzalo also star. Dan Etheridge directed the episode written by John Enbom.
If any of you former Gilmore Girls fans break down and tune in for the final eps, feel free to post about tonight’s here too. (I can report that the last few episodes have been pretty good, actually.)
I’m tuning into GG for the final couple of episodes. Tonight wasn’t up the full brilliance of earlier seasons, but it was still really fun, and everyone felt like themselves, which was nice to see. I’m relieved the Logan thing turned out the way it did, and I’m looking forward to the Luke & Lorelai reunion in the finale.
Also, I really like seeing the Lorelais being best friends as adults. (I’m guessing that’s been building for a while, but I stopped watching shortly after their long period of estrangement.)
Yeah, I agree. I watched this, but couldn’t stay up late enough for VM (I stayed up too late watching the replay of GG on the DVR as it was). I, too, was glad that Rory put her foot down with Logan and his pretty irrational conquistadoresque demand (even if he didn’t do it in those terms, that was the subtext). I also liked that moment at the end where Rory acknowledged that her college graduation would always be colored by that event — that seems very true to life to me, that we can’t necessarily control things and make good memories just because we want to at a certain time.
Not sure about Kirk in a box though. So several years ago.
I missed the first part of GG because of work, but I was so glad I saw the ending. Rory shouldn’t be getting married at, what, 22?
I sort of liked the way Lorelai (and, for that matter, Richard) was dealing with Emily. There was a time when this sort of behavior would have resulted in Lorelai having a fit, or saying that she hated George Bush, or something immature. Here, as much as it bothered her, she didn’t lose it completely. And I appreciate that. Maybe she recognizes that Emily’s reaction to stress or uncertainty is to work herself up into a frenzy.
Veronica Mars was good, although it doesn’t really feel like it’s near the end of the season. There’s not a lot of tension.
I’m starting to get a little sad because it doesn’t feel like there will be time for a big send-off that gives us closure with Lorelai and her parents. Which makes me sad. But yay on the Luke hooking up. I would have hated to see that hanging at the end.
Agreed on all points. The Emily/Lorelai dynamic has gone in an unexpected direction — because it’s not all about Closure and Fixing Things. Instead, it looks like Lorelai has accepted that her mother is who she is. Like they’ll have moments of closeness amid long periods of aggravation, but it just won’t get to either of them the way it used to, because Lorelai no longer needs to prove herself to Emily and because Emily is no longer holding onto all that hurt and anger about Lorelai. Richard seems to have let go of it too (maybe no longer feeling the need to protect Emily by getting angry on her behalf), and also developed more respect for his daughter somewhere along the line. I was a little surprised to see how things are, but I think it’s a realistic and even admirable route.

VM: Paul Rudd, though I love him, was too cartoony and over the top for the tone of the show. And every plot twist was telegraphed. I still liked watching it, and it was Macalicious.

It feels like they’re winding everything up towards an honest-to-goodness happy ending. Which seems strange and wrong, somehow …
